Alicia Gallo: Main Street Bringing Spirit & Soul to Richmond this Weekend

It’s been an exciting and action packed summer for Downtown Richmond. From weekly farmers’ markets and fitness classes for adults and children, to the Healthy Village Festival and two Music on the Main concerts, our little office has been abuzz with activity. But we’re not done yet: this Saturday we will truly “Celebrate Downtown” with the 7th annual Spirit & Soul Festival and Fundraiser.

Macdonald Avenue between Harbour Way and 13th Street will be closed to traffic to make way for an afternoon of spectacular entertainment, food, wine, and dancing in the street...all to celebrate and benefit the revitalization of historic Main Street.

We are so excited to bring some of the Bay Area’s top musical talent to Richmond: Guitarist Kenya Baker & the Kenya B Trio will kickstart the festivities with jazzy blues and funk originals. Soul diva Nicole Buttah Pearson & the Buttaluv Band and Rene Escovedo & the Fuze are sure to keep the crowd pleased and ready for a spectacular finale performance by SambaFunk!.

Joined by the Funquarians featuring FUNKTERNAL and the Angels of Funk Eden, this Bay Area institution (and winner of the 2015 SF Carnival Festival) is sure to bring their high octane performance of Brazilian, African, and Latin music, dance, and fabulous signature costumes to the streets of Richmond.

In addition to great music, the Spirit & Soul Festival’s outdoor marketplace will feature something for everyone: handmade jewelry, accessories, art, clothing, and more crafted by local artisans and entrepreneurs. Food lovers will also be able to enjoy a variety of delicious dishes-- BBQ, soul food, traditional Mexican fare, organic quiche, and decadent desserts.

Beverage pavilions will be stocked with a variety of libations for sale including fine wines from R&B Cellars, a variety of Octoberfest-style beer, and refreshing "Main Street" Margaritas. Attendees can also enter for a chance to win fabulous drawing prizes and bid on silent auction items that highlight Richmond's diverse products and services.

Richmond Main Street will also honor several individuals who have been instrumental in giving of their time, resources, and expertise to support the revitalization efforts as Downtown Champions.

We invite everyone to join us for a fantastic day of music and fun all while directly supporting our mission to cultivate a culturally and economically vibrant district.
