A Farmers Market in Civic Center
What: The Richmond Certified Farmers Market
When: Friday, January 16th, from 8 am to 5 pm
Where: Civic Center Plaza and Macdonald Avenue, Richmond
Why: The winter months can be a difficult time to find fresh fruits and veggies. Stop by the weekly, year-round farmers market for some quality produce.  


Coffee with a Cop
What: The Coffee with a Cop events continues this weekend.
When: Saturday, January 17th, from 9 am to 11 am
Where: Starbucks, 133 Park Place, Point Richmond
Why: Come out to talk with five members of the Richmond Police Department. These events are a good chance to get to know members of the force and ask them any questions you may have.

MLK Jr. Day of Service
What: A day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
When: Monday, January 19th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Where: The Richmond Greenway, 8th Street and Carlson St., Richmond
Why: Featuring a remembrance event, tree planting, and a special morning viewing of “Selma” at the Century Hilltop theatre, this event is an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and give back to the community.

#SelmaForStudents
What:
A free showing of the movie "Selma" for students who bring their IDs
When:
Monday, January 19th, at 10:50 am
Where:
Century Hilltop Theatre, Blume Plaza, 3200 Klose Way, San Pablo
Why:
Martin Luther King Jr Day is a time to reflect on the past of civil rights progress and what work remains ahead. A free viewing of the movie "Selma" is a prim opportunity to do this.

Zumba on Main Street
What: Richmond Main Street Initiative’s regular Zumba class
When: Monday, January 19th, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Where: BBK Center for Health and Healing, 310 9th Street, Richmond
Why: Zumba is a fun, high-energy fitness program that blends red-hot international music with Latin-inspired dance steps. Come out on Thursday for some evening exercise.

Leadership and Civic Engagement from Girls Inc.
What: A community forum about leadership and civic engagement organized by Girls Inc. 
When: Tuesday, January 20th, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm
Where: Richmond Community Foundation, 1014 Florida Avenue #200, Richmond 
Why: With the mission of creating more opportunities for success for young women in the community, this Girls Inc. forum will discuss what it takes to become a leader. The RSVP deadline was January 12th, so reach out to the organizers quickly if you would like them to hold a spot.

Richmond Historical Film
What: The Richmond Museum of History in association with the National Park Service continues their historical film festival aboard the SS Red Oak Victory. This week’s movie is “The Heroes of Telemark.”
When: Every Tuesday until May
Where: SS Red Oak Victory, 1337 Canal Boulevard, Richmond
Why: What better place to view a historical movie than on a piece of history? This series explores the history around us and is a great chance to learn more political and cultural events of the past.

What: The weekly karaoke event at the Point Richmond Pub
When: Thursday, January 22nd, from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm
Where: The Baltic, 135 Park Place Boulevard, Point Richmond
Why: When else but during a karaoke night can you belt out whatever strange song you may love in front of a room of curious onlookers and it be totally acceptable?
