Tania Alexander: Free Back to School Haircuts and School Supplies This Sunday!

I’m Tania Alexander, a Church Administrator for Praise Fellowship Bible Church (PFBC).

PFBC and its pastor, Richmond Native William Coleman III, are committed to serving the community and meeting its needs when and where we can. This year, many parents in our community mentioned that providing backpacks and school supplies for their children in light of rising costs is always a challenge this time of year.

To address this immediate need, we partnered with several business owners in the Bay Area, including PFBC congregant Fallon Rismay, to find ways to help families in our community.

Ms. Rismay, a licensed barber and stylist, discussed with Vanessa Calloway of PFBC the idea of offering free haircuts for children in our community, and both agreed that it is a valid need.

Ms. Rismay has solicited the help of 10 licensed barbers from Richmond, Santa Rosa, Vallejo, Fairfield, and Oakland to provide free haircuts to young boys and girls in the City of Richmond.

In addition to haircuts, we plan to distribute free backpacks and school supplies to these young people, which is a great way for them to start the new school year. We currently have 90 backpacks, which were donated by community members. However, our goal is 100 backpacks filled with school supplies. To achieve the goal, we need the community’s help.

The event will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 2 pm to 8 pm at D-Boys Barber Shop, 12558 San Pablo Avenue, Richmond, CA
