Funk at the Baltic
What: Reed Fromer Band, one of the East Bay’s most acclaimed funk and R&B groups performs at the Baltic.

Gingerbread Houses at RAC
What: The annual gingerbread house making event at the Richmond Art Center
When: Saturday, December 6th, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Richmond Art Center, 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond
Why: Supplying and endless amount of gingerbread, frosting, candy, and more, the gingerbread making event is the perfect inauguration of the holiday season.

The 17th Annual Senior Winter Ball
What: The holiday ball thrown by the city for our seniors.
When: Saturday, December 8th, at 6:45 pm
Where: 3230 Macdonald Avenue, Richmond
Why: The evening starts with a dinner and then proceeds into a formal ball for seniors to get together, socialize, and have fun. Now in it’s 17th year, this tradition is a holiday event not to be missed (as long as you meet the age requirement).

Opening Reception of Rosie
What: The opening reception of local artist Megan Renstrom’s new collection of paintings inspired by Rosie the Riveter
When: Sunday, December 7th, from 5 pm to 7 pm
Where: Cerda Art Studio, 217 W. Richmond Avenue, Point Richmond
Why: The legacy of Rosie is visible in many aspects of the city today — from the empowerment of everyday people, to the city’s narrative of resilience. Come out to Megan’s opening reception to see how Rosie has impacted the artist’s work.

Human Rights Day in Richmond
What: An evening honoring and defending universal human rights.
When: Monday, December 8th, from 6pm to 8 pm
Where: Richmond City Council Chamber, 440 Civic Center plaza
Why: Protecting human rights is a daily practice of mindfulness and activism. This evening celebrates and empowers this effort and features presentations by local activists, students, and members of the United Nations Association East Bay Chapter.

Zumba on Main Street
What: The weekly free Zumba class organized by the Richmond Main Street Initiative.

A Potluck for Crime Prevention
What: The annual holiday potluck organized by Crime Prevention

Why: Benefiting local crime prevention efforts and featuring a performance by the St. John’s Men’s Choir, this potluck is a chance to get together with community members and enjoy a shared meal.
