Why: The winter months can be a difficult time to find fresh fruits and veggies. Stop by the weekly, year-round farmers market for some quality produce.

What: Richmond Main Street Initiative’s weekly Tae Kwon Do class with Master Taylor.
When: Saturday, January 31st, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Where: BBK Center for Health & Healing, 301 9th Street, Richmond
Why: Master Taylor teaches this weekly class to young kids, adults, and everyone in between. For a free, fun sample of Tae Kwon Do, this is your moment.

A Chess Tournament
What: The McKinley Williams & John Easterling Chess Tournament
When: Saturday, January 31st, from 10:30 am to 3 pm
Where: Richmond Recreation, 3230 Macdonald Avenue, Richmond
Why: Honoring the former president of Contra Costa College, this chess tournament — now in its fourth year — is an opportunity to test your chess skills against local enthusiasts.

A day of Urban Tilth
What: Urban Tilth’s first gardening day at the community garden in North Richmond
When: Sunday, February 1st, from 10 am to noon
Where: 1st and Market Community Garden, across the street from 1876 1st Street, Richmond
Why: Urban Tilth has an ambitious goal — to make Richmond as green as possible, one garden at a time. Come out to help in their cause.

Zumba on Main Street
What: Richmond Main Street Initiative’s regular Zumba class
When: Monday, February 2nd, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Where: BBK Center for Health and Healing, 310 9th Street, Richmond
Why: Zumba is a fun, high-energy fitness program that blends red-hot international music with Latin-inspired dance steps. Come out on Thursday for some evening exercise.

Birds on the Miller/Knox Shoreline
What: A guided tour of the Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline by naturalist Anthony Fisher.
When: Monday, February 2nd, from 9 am to noon
Where: Meet in the first parking lot on left side of Dornan Drive after passing through Ferry Point tunnel
Why: There are hundreds of different species of birds that live along the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay. If you’ve ever been interested in learning more about them, this is your opportunity.

Jam Sessions at The Baltic
What: The weekly jam sessions at the Baltic, aka, the best opportunity to test our that song you’ve been writing.
When: Tuesday, February 3rd, at 9:00 pm
Where: The Baltic, 135 Park Place, Point Richmond
Why: These weekly jam sessions are a good chance to check out new music from local musicians, or just to freestyle with some friends.

RPAL Annual Luncheon
What: The annual luncheon from Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL), honoring the SF Giants Community Fund
When: Wednesday, February 4th, from 11:30 am to 1 pm
Where: Richmond Memorial Auditorium, 3230 Macdonald Avenue, Richmond
Why: Celebrating the generosity of the SF Giants Community Fund, this luncheon will also honor several community leaders and include appearances by former Giants Vida Blue, Willie McGee, and Mike Felder.
