On November 5th, 2024 we will have a chance to use the full weight of the electoral process to determine who will represent us on the Richmond City Council for the next four years.
In an effort to help level the playing field, Radio Free Richmond has extended an offer to all seven candidates for the Council to post their own words to let you, the voters, know their positions on what they believe to be the important issues.
THIS IS FREE PUBLICITY.
The candidates have also been invited to post guest editorials on the issues of importance.
RFR will post a new candidate statement every couple of days.
RADIO FREE RICHMOND DOES NOT ENDORSE CANDIDATES—THEY OFFER A PLATFORM FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO EXPRESS IDEAS ON ISSUES OF VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY
As a lifelong resident of Richmond’s South Side, I have lived the promise of Richmond. Growing up in a home devoted to service, his parents, former Mayors Irma Anderson and Rev. Booker T. Anderson Jr. instilled in me a deep belief in social justice and equitable communities that create opportunities for ALL who live in Richmond. These are values I have carried over into my professional life. From my time as VP of Human Resources at Goodwill Industries to my current role as the People & Culture Director of the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, I have always ensured a sense of affirmation, teamwork, and collaboration.
By utilizing my upbringing and professional experiences, I will collaborate with my Richmond City Councilmembers, West Contra Costa, State and Federal colleagues to develop a comprehensive set of policies that include reinvigorating the city’s economy, investing in public safety, increasing affordable housing, and working to attract new businesses while also revitalizing the city’s struggling districts. I believe that ALL Richmond residents deserve a safe, affordable, environmentally healthy and equitable community.
My commitment to creating a brighter future has earned the support of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County, the West County Democratic Club, the Building Trades and Construction Council of Contra Costa County, our next Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, State Senator Nancy Skinner, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, State Controller Malia Cohen, former Mayors Tom Butt, Rosemary Corbin, Councilmember Nat Bates, and many others.
I have proven and demonstrated responsive leadership and focused results. I am the District 5 candidate you can count on and someone who believes in Richmond’s best days are still ahead.
