In an effort to let people know more about the applicants seeking the appointment to fill former Councilmember McLaughlin’s vacated Council seat, Radio Free Richmond offered each of the applicants an opportunity to post a statement of about 500 words along with a headshot photo.

The application process does not ask for a mailing address, a phone number or even an email address.  For that matter—the applicants are not even asked whether they live in Richmond.

Using the only tools available to them—voter registration lists valid as of August of 2016—letters were mailed to each of the applicants.  For those that did not initially respond, a second letter was mailed.

To date, RFR has received responses from:

AL GREEN

CAROLE JOHNSON

DAVID SCHOENTHAL

DAVID TUCKER

DEMNLUS JOHNSON

MAIJA BARRETTO

MARILYN LANGLOIS

PETER THELIN

SOHEILA BANA

The letters addressed to Michael Malin were returned with no such person living at that address and being unforwardable.

Invitations extended to Ada Recino, Diego Garcia and Timothy Golden have gone unanswered.

With only a few days left before the Tuesday Council meeting where the appointment may be made, if anyone knows how to get a hold of Mr. Malin, Ms. Recino, Mr. Golden or Mr. Garcia, please have them contact Radio Free Richmond by emailing to [email protected] or calling at 233-2060.
