Opening Receptions at NIAD
What: Four new summer shows premier at the Richmond art space 
When: Saturday, August 8th, from 10 am to 4 pm
Where: NIAD Art Center, 551 23rd Street, Richmond 
Why: NIAD is a one-of-a-kind space where artists with disabilities can create unique artwork, and Saturday’s opening receptions will show off some of the art center’s best work of the year.

Bay Area Roller Derby, Bout 3
What: Richmond takes on San Francisco and Berkeley dukes it out against Oakland in the third game of the Bay Area Derby Girl season
When: Saturday, August 8th, from 4 pm to 10 pm
Where: The Craneway Pavilion, 1414 Harbour Way South, Richmond
Why: Even though the Richmond Wrecking Belles won’t be making it to the finals this year, it will sure be fun to watch them cream the San Francisco ShEvil Dead.

What: A back-to-school backpack and school supply give-away

Why: For the 350 Richmond kids who went through summer camps in the city, this event is a chance to get a leg up on the school supply rush.

What: A multi-media screen printing class at the Richmond Art Center
When: Saturday, August 8th, from 9:30 am to 4 pm
Where: The Richmond Art Center, 2540 Barrett Avenue, Richmond
Why: Combining the texture of clay and the force of screen printing, this class is an opportunity to dive into multiple media simultaneously and walk away with your own unique piece of artwork.

What: The new, weekly softball game to bring together the community

What: The Richmond Museum of History is hosting a pancake breakfast aboard the historical SS Red Oak Victory 
When: Sunday, August 9th, from 9:30 am to noon

Why: Offering a sweeping view of the Bay and enough bacon to go around, these breakfasts are a great deal and benefit the local history museum.

Crop Swap
What:
An event to trade excess produce from your garden with your neighborhoods.
When: Thursday, August 13th, from 5 pm to 7 pm
Where: Richmond Public Library Main Branch, 325 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond
Why: Have a few too many zucchinis, but not enough tomatoes? Come by the crop swap and you might just find what you’re looking for — while offloading some of your own excess produce.
