This week in Richmond: Your guide to the city's best events

Relief Printmaking at the Richmond Arts Center
What: An intensive class for exploring the process of printmaking with master printmaker Juan Fuentes.
When: Saturday, October 11th, from 10 am to 4:00 pm.
Where: 2540 Barrett Ave, Richmond
Why: Including a guided tour of instructor Juan Fuentes' exhibition “Social Discourses: In Print” in the Community Gallery and a comprehensive course on the process of printmaking, this weekend class is a chance to dive into a new hobby.

2014 Home Front Festival by the Bay
What: The 8th year of the Home Front Festival, a day celebrating all that Richmond's waterfront has to offer.
When: Saturday, October 11th, from 11 am to 4 pm
Where: Three main sites along the water, with one at the Craneway Pavilion, another at Lucretia Edwards Park, and the Red Oak Victory Ship. Start your day at the Craneway (1414 Harbour Way South, Richmond), and make your way north to see each spot.
Why: Kicking off with a 5k in the morning, then opening up into a huge festival with over 20 different events to enjoy, the Home Front Festival by the Bay offers the full experience of Richmond's waterfront.

Speed Chess Tournament
What: A chess tournament on National Chess Day
When: Saturday, October 11th, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Where: The Hilltop Mall, JC Penny Court, 2200 Hilltop Mall Road, Richmond
Why: Serving as a fundraiser for the West Coast Chess Alliance, which works to keep chess in schools in the area, the Speed Chess Tournament is also a fun opportunity to compete over the chessboard for a $300 prize.

Oktoberfest at the Craneway
What: An evening of all things October at Richmond's largest venue.
When: Saturday, October 11th, from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Where: 1414 Harbour Way South, Richmond
Why: After the Home Front Festival ends, stick around the Craneway for a second festival of beer, food, and an embrace of all novelty items that autumn beckons.

Richmond Candidates' Night Out
What: The Upper Rheem Neighborhood Watch Group is hosting a Candidate's Night
When: Monday, October 13th, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
Where: The Living Hope Neighborhood Church, located at 2800 Rheem Blvd
Why: With less than a month until the election, these forums are important opportunities to hear each candidates' vision for the city. Coming out to this forum will help voters to make a fully informed decision come November 4th.

Earthquake Forum
What: An education event titled "Lessons Learned from the Napa Earthquake"
When: Tuesday, October 14th, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm
Where: The Point Richmond Community Center, 139 Washington Avenue, Richmond
Why: Discussing earthquake preparadness, the effects of the Napa Quake, and much more, this forum will host experts in the field of seismology to answer your questions about earthquakes.

Main Street Farmers' Market
What: The Richmond Main Street initiative's Farmers' Market.
When: Wednesday, October 15th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Where: Nevin Plaza between 13th & Marina Way, Richmond
Why: This farmers' market is the best opportunity in Richmond to get the freshest produce from local farmers. Stop by to pick up some healthy snacks, or just to sample what's out there.
