“What better way to spend a summer night with the kids out of school than an old fashioned block party where you get to know your neighbors?” asks Michelle Milam, Crime Prevention Manager of the Richmond Police Department.
Milam has been organizing Richmond’s National Night Out, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Over 28 million people across the country are expected to turn out for the occasion on Tuesday.
To Milam, the event is a time for celebration and reflection in Richmond’s neighborhoods.
“National Night Out is a ‘thank you’ to acknowledge the neighbors and residents that work year around with each other, and public safety to make Richmond great,” the Crime Prevention Manager explains.
To help you get the most out of the night, here’s a helpful map that shows each block party around the city. The kick off starts at 5 pm in the Target parking lot and ends around 8 pm with a celebration at Pullman Point Apartments.
