Rosa Lara: RPA support of the DMC is too little, too late

Doctors Medical Center saved my life, and I have been fighting hard to save it from closing since the beginning. Leading up to the vote in May on Measure C, which determined the building's fate, I stood with community members from all around the city to get the point across: we need DMC. There were many voices fighting for DMC to stay open, but it wasn't enough. Measure C did not pass. Now that the political season is in full swing, it seems like many Richmond Progressive Alliance members, who did not support the fight for Measure C when it mattered most, are suddenly coming out as DMC's biggest champions.  Continue reading

Richmond Police Department reports great decrease in shots fired

In an interview with Radio Free Richmond in late July, Chief of Police Chris Magnus discussed the great reduction of violent crime in Richmond during the first half of 2014. Terrance Kelly Youth Foundation hosts red carpet premier to honor local legends

On Sunday afternoon, friends, family, and fans of the De La Salle high school football team gathered at Blackhawk theatre in Danville for a red carpet premier of "When the Game Stands Tall." The film, an adaptation of the 2003 book by Contra Costa Times columnist Neil Hayes, depicts the 151-game winning streak of the De La Salle high school football team which ran for 11 years, from 1992 to 2003. The evening served as an opportunity to celebrate the legend of the De La Salle football team and as a means to honor the memory of Richmond native Terrance Kelly, one of the team's star players.
